Eating Disorder Treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your approach?

We take a multidisciplinary, non-dieting approach to treating eating disorders, incorporating psychiatry, general practice, dietetics, and psychotherapy to help you recover and feel your best. You can keep your own external care team and only see the Hub clinicians you need, but it is important that all members of your care team are able to communicate freely to offer you the best care. You can read about our clinicians on our staff profiles page.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral to see our dietitian or psychologist, but a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) or Eating Disorder Management Plan (EDMP) from your GP can enable you to access Medicare rebates. A GP referral or EDMP is necessary to receive a Medicare rebate for psychiatry. Referrals can be sent to referrals@rainbowhub.com.au

How much do you charge?

Our counsellors and provisional psychologists charge $150 per individual 50 minute session.

Our registered psychologists and mental health social worker charge $250 per individual 50 minute session, and up to 10 sessions receive a Medicare rebate under a GP Mental Health Care Plan or 20 under an Eating Disorder Management Plan. Please ask us about our dietitian fees.

What if I'm experiencing financial hardship?

We are able to provide flexibility with fees and timing of payments, if you are experiencing financial hardship. Please talk to our mental health hub practice manager Sue if you need financial assistance. Otherwise, all services are to be paid for at the time of service.

Is there a Medicare rebate?

There is a Medicare rebate for our registered psychologists, nurse practitioners, and doctors. Our counsellors and provisional psychologists are unable to offer a Medicare rebate, unfortunately.

Is my therapy covered by my private health or NDIS?

Most private health funds offer a rebate for psychology, counselling, dietetics, and/or family therapy. Depending on your disability and approved services, your NDIS plan may cover these therapies. Doctors' fees are not rebated through private health or NDIS, only Medicare. You need to check the specific requirements for your health fund or NDIS plan to be sure of your coverage. We are not responsible for whether your health fund or NDIS provides a rebate.
