Adam Roy

Adam is a counselling student currently completing a Bachelor of Counselling and undertaking a supervised university placement to further develop his therapeutic skills within community settings.

Prior to entering counselling, Adam served for over 25 years across the Australian Army Infantry, Queensland Police, and Victoria Police, including a range of specialist and high-performance operational roles. His service included deployments to East Timor and Iraq, and extensive experience working in complex, high-pressure environments that required teamwork, leadership, and psychological resilience. These experiences have shaped Adam’s understanding of trauma exposure, operational stress, identity transition, and the impact of service on individuals and families. He brings lived experience of recovery and post-service adjustment, alongside a strong respect for professional boundaries and ethical care.

Adam approaches counselling in a client-centred, reflective, and relational manner, drawing on evidence-informed frameworks, academic learning, and ongoing supervision. He has a particular interest in holistic approaches that consider meaning-making, nervous system regulation, and whole-person wellbeing, while remaining grounded in safe, ethical, and trauma-informed practice.

Adam values inclusive practice and is committed to working respectfully with diverse communities. He is engaged in ongoing professional development and intends to continue postgraduate training in integrative and trauma-informed therapeutic approaches.
